2007 Progress

In January/February 2007 volunteers assisting Mothers for Orphans (Madzimai Enherera) Inc. arranged the following educational assistance for 169 AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe.

Zinatsa Primary School.

The forty-nine enrolled orphans received:

  • school fees paid for one year;
  • school uniforms;
  • 1 pair of shoes;
  • exercise books for one year;
  • a ruler, pencils, pens etc;
  • 1 school bag.

      In addition Mothers for Orphans donated 69 Zimbabwean text and resource books for the use of teachers at a cost of A$224. We also donated 10 library books.

      Zhenje Primary School

      The fifteen enrolled orphans received:

    • school fees paid for one year;
    • school uniforms;
    • 1 pair of shoes;
    • exercise books for one year;
    • a ruler, pencils, pens etc;
    • 1 school bag.

      In addition Mothers for Orphans donated 10 library books to the school.

      Munyimi Primary School

      The thirty-nine enrolled orphans received:

    • school fees paid for one year;
    • exercise books for one year; and
    • pencils and pens.

      In addition Mothers for Orphans donated 10 library books to the school.

      Zinatsa Secondary School

      Twenty-two orphans enrolled in Form 1 received:

    • school fees paid for one year;
    • school uniforms;
    • 1 pair of shoes;
    • exercise books for one year;
    • a ruler, pencils, pens, geometry set etc;
    • 1 school bag.

      The forty-four orphans enrolled in the higher forms received:

    • school fees paid for one year;
    • exercise books for one year;
    • a ruler, pencils, pens; geometry set and
    • exam fees for paid 'O' evel and 'A' Level students.

      In addition Mothers for Orphans donated Zimbabwean text and resource books for the use of teachers at a cost of A$252.

      Mothers for Orphans volunteers also transported 9 ill orphans to Chivhu hospital. Seven were provided with medicines to take home and two were admitted to hospital at Mothers for Orphans' expense. Ruvimbo was treated for TB and Reason was treated for chronic osteomyelitis.

      The Mothers for Orphans management committee is currently considering an offer by a doctor from Chivhu hospital to regularly visit the schools we support and check the health of the orphans and their carers.
