Munyimi school before repair
What we do

Education in Zimbabwe is not free. Mothers for Orphans (Madzimai Enherera) Inc provides over 220 AIDS orphans in the Chivhu communal area of Zimbabwe with an education. Our project is centered on Zinatsa Secondary School and the three primary schools in its catchment area.

All our work is conducted on a voluntary basis. Volunteers meet the cost of their airfares to Zimbabwe and the cost of their accommodation.

We provide school uniforms, shoes, exercise books, other stationery, school bags etc and pay school fees for each orphan.

Until early 2009 when Zimbabwe began utilising the US dollar, the monetary system in Zimbabwe was in chaos, wracked by rampant inflation. As a result schools had no funds to buy consumables, resources and undertake critical repairs and maintenance. Mothers for Orphans directly assisted schools during this period by purchasing textbooks, library books, record books, chalk and pens etc. We also bought the necessary materials to repair the roof at Munyimi Primary School which was severely damaged in a storm and supplied cement to construct new toilets at Zhenje Primary School.

We also assist community development. We inspired and assisted the Zinatsa Secondary School home economics department to establish a project whereby orphan girls make their own uniforms. This initiative will equip the girls with a valuable skill which can provide economic independence when they leave school. We also encourage suitably skilled villagers to conduct small-scale clothes making businesses by contracting them to make uniforms for purchase by Mothers for Orphans.

When we visit Zimbabwe we also arrange medical assistance for orphans in need.
